Innovative university information service combines paper and virtual versions

Innovative information service, combining paper and virtual versions has been introduced for prospective students by the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów. The two versions of the guide are compatible and complement each other. According to the university representatives, this is the first such guide in Poland.

Szymon Taranda from the university press office told PAP that in order to take advantage of the innovative university guide you need to have the traditional paper recruitment brochure and download the helloWSIiZ app.

Then just bring a mobile device to the selected image in the paper brochure and the paper image "comes to life"; video, pictures, or other information not available in the paper version will be displayed on the smartphone screen.

"For example, on the page of the printed guide there is a photo of a student. After moving a smartphone over the photo, the application displays a video in which she talks about her field of study and future job opportunities. This solution brings this paper brochure to life" - noted Taranda.

He added that the application allows to obtain more extensive information about the offer of study programs and specialisations, view the large photo galleries and videos, take a virtual tour of the university buildings, laboratories, as well visit websites and chat on the university social networking sites.

"Through the use of augmented reality, the application sets a new quality of interaction between the university and the study candidates" - said Taranda.

The application helloWSIiZ has been created by the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów in partnership with the company MobiTouch, founded by computer science graduates of the university. The application uses the smatphone\'s camera and Internet connection.

Taranda said that application users praise this way of presenting the university.

"In the brochure I only see a picture of the student and his brief statement, but as I move a smartphone over the image, I can watch a video, which offers more information about selected field of study, the realities of studying, employment possibilities. It is a great idea "- wrote one of the university candidates, Tomasz Krakowiecki.
