Two winners of the competition Innovation is a Woman

Justyna Wrzosek-Jakubowska and Emilia Frydrysiak are the two winners of the 4th edition of the competition Innovation is a Woman. The authors of innovative inventions will present their solutions at the international trade fair iENA 2014 in Nuremberg.

The competition Innovation is a Woman has been organized for the fourth time by the Foundation Women of Science. The jury selected two winners.

One of the winners is Justyna Wrzosek-Jakubowska, assistant in the Department of Environmental Risk Assessment, Institute of Environmental Protection - National Research Institute and a PhD student at SGGW-WULS. The jury awarded the "method of preventing the accumulation of pesticides in the environment", developed in a team from the Institute of Environmental Protection. It allows to purify contaminated water or soil of commonly used pesticides.

The second winner of the competition is Emilia Frydrysiak, a PhD student at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, Łódź University of Technology. The winning projects involves the development of prototype of pro-medical underwear supporting prevention and treatment of inflammation of the lower urinary tract. The proposed solution combines the knowledge of medicine, microbiology and textile materials. The advantage of this approach over traditional forms of therapy is the convenience of use. The main recipients of the results of the project will be women, due to the statistically significantly more frequent problems with inflammation of the lower urinary tract.

"The Foundation has once again recorded a significant number of applications, which only confirms the great potential of young Polish scientists and their incredible creativity. Inventions and innovative solutions proposed by the contestants were varied, and the level of competition traditionally extremely high" - said Dr. Justyna Wojniak of the Board of the Foundation Women of Science.

As a reward, the winners will present their inventions at the 66th International Trade Fair "Ideas-Inventions-New Products iENA 2014", which will be held in Nuremberg on 30 October - 2 November 2014. The exhibition is one of the world\'s largest events of its kind, and the winners of the competition will have an opportunity to present their achievements to a wide audience and to promote their work internationally. The award is sponsored by the Promotion Agency Inventor.
